<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There's a picture I have in my mind.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's not this one, but her smile is the same.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Always true, it shows in her eyes ...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Those Scottish eyes ...</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And it tugs right at my heart.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The picture in my mind, is of this ...</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We're on the front of a boat,</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We're in Mexico, for Mary and Don's wedding.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We're on a half-day trip, from Cancoon to Isla Mujeres (Island of the Women). </div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Rosi takes our picture ... </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Me and Nana, </div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
wind in our hair, leaning towards each other, sharing this grin ...</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And while there are oh-so-may many moments ...</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, so many memories, with this amazing woman, that I get to call my own, ...</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
this one sticks out in my mind, as one of those "perfect days".</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I <u>pay to swim with a shark</u> (probably caught the same day). </div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I buy my dress for the wedding at this quaint, outdoor, marketplace.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We share lunch with the Captain and his son.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I realize I left my purse at the market place!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Have to take a taxi, with the Captain's son as escort, but am lucky enough to retrieve it!.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Nana laughs with me through it all.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We share a hotel room (Nana, Win, Rosi and myself), </div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We ladies all, unbeknownst until later,, each tip the maids generously, and daily.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We have the cleanest unit in the whole darn place, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
as well as the most toiletries and towels ever known to grace a suite.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The maids smile with us through it all.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I scare the daylights out of Nana - errant hairball in the shower (Spider!).</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Nana laughs with us through it all.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Nana and I share a bed.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Her snoring doesn't bother me a bit (comforts me, actually).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's not just one of those perfect days, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's <i>one of THOSE perfect days</i>!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And it's so much more than that one day.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's a lifetime.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But that one day ..,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's on my mind today.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's close to my heart ...</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She's close to my heart.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Always ...</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>

Kudo's to my hubby, the captain, who never asks how many shots are enough; as long as I'm clicking, he's facilitating. I took these on the inland (waterway), down around Cape Ramano, on 12/31/2011 ...<br />

My brother gave me a fabulous collection of old Jelly Jars from Gammy (rest in peace). Not only are they interesting, plenty of delicious memories are tied to Betty's Jelly Jars, let me tell you! These ones are currently chillin' in the Orchid house (I have the favorites in my kitchen ... they're likely to make an appearance at some point).<br />
<br />
While I haven't found the time for my blog that I'd like (is anyone even still out there? lol) - but I have been keeping up with my picture taking (see next post!). My exuberance tends to far outweigh the practical amount of time I can invest in keeping up. And, I must admit, I have a wandering eye where the internet is concerned ;) And along those lines, I've started posting to a new site: <a href="http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/christine-stonebridge.html">http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/christine-stonebridge.html</a>. I also started a fb fan page - aparantly way too prematurely! My posts are showing twice on my personal page, nada to my fan page (pffhuh!?) - anyone with experience/advice on this?<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"> Well, the bun-buns graduated sometime Tuesday. They got their jump on and went out a small gap at the top of the pen above the roof on one end. Definitely anticlimactic, but good for them! The whole point was to get them ready, and they were.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Can't say we don't miss them ... Lol, Ray said, "I didn't even get to say goodbye!" </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I've been putting kale out for them (both inside and outside of the pen). A full day passed with no action. But this morning, I found a partially eaten piece inside the pen, and a large one on the outside that'd been chewed down to the stock. Score! :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />

<br />
After two days with no sign of Mama having visited, I found the littlest two weak and listless on Friday morning. Minutes later, I'd made a quick nest using a gift bag, tissue paper, leaves, grass and clean dryer lint for "fur" and had mixed and warmed powdered kitten formula (<em>left over from </em><a href="http://christinestonebridge.blogspot.com/2011/01/baby-bunny-mama-drama.html" target="_blank">Baby-Bunny-Mama-Drama</a>).<br />

It's not much of a nest, just a small hole about the size of my fist, tucked in the side of a mound of loose dirt, with a bit of fur and grass in it ...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">As of last night, all three are still accounted for, a bit bigger and definitely more active! They still don't have their eyes open, so my sweet husband made a make-shift corral of 2x4's to help keep them from wandering under the fence where they would be far more exposed and might not find they're way back.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I checked on them before going to bed and found they'd moved out of the nest (which has lost it's shape anyway and is now more of a dent than a hole) and were cuddled together at the bottom of the hill, so I gathered leaves around them for a make-shift nest.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div align="justify"><em><span style="font-size: x-small;">Wild rabbits aren't very discriminating about where they make their nest (we found a nest right outside our front door last winter). While there, we got a chance to check out Billy's garden. Cabbage, Tomatoes, Green Onions, Watermelon ... I'm certain I've left something out; I was a bit distracted by the monster Cabbage! I don't eat it, mind you, but I can certainly appreciate it's huge, lush beauty and, more so, the fact that Billy has a green-thumb. She also has mad cooking skills & treated us to a "practice" batch of Corn Beef & Potatoes. Alright, so it was Cabbage (just seeing if you're paying attention :)<br />

I met up with my Aunt <a href="http://marysheehanwinn.blogspot.com/">Mary</a> (Ree) this past Sunday at Cambier Park for the Art Festival. There were well over two hundred artists and I couldn't even begin to guess how many visitors. The Von Liebig certainly knows how to put on a well organized show.<br />

There were plenty of items to "Ooh" and "Aah" over and here are just a few of the things that caught my eye ...<br />

These wire sculpture/mobiles (by Michael Gard) were absolutely beautiful! They're hand-woven with wire, in a multi-step process and range in size from 12" to life size. I could definitely see one of these hanging from our porch (Lotto dreams!) ...<br />

We live in the woods, so there are always webs, but this was beyond anything we've seen before. They were everywhere! All different sizes and most were of an odd, "bowl" shaped design, that I've not noticed before. There was a heavy fog, and I thought the lighting would make it a bit easier to capture them - but it was still hard work. By the time I came home in the evening, there was no trace of them. Wednesday morning was rather foggy and I ran out, camera in hand, with hopes of a second chance ... but they hadn't repeated their displays.<br />

<br />
We took off work a bit early last Friday, loaded up the boat (and the Tugboat) and headed out for a "one-star meal, at a five-star location" with my brother, Win, and his girlfriend, Heather... hot dogs on Key Waden. This refers to an inside joke of my brothers' ... when they come to our house for Ray's cooking, they refer to is as a "five-star meal at a one-star price" (<em>he referred to my cooking, a meatloaf, as "depression era food", but that's another story, lol</em>). We actually bumped this evenings rating to a three-star meal, because we added cheeseburgers with lettuce and tomato to the mix (the <em>fact that we forgot to bring the cheese, or use the lettuce and tomato is besides the point - it's the thought that counts, right? Right!</em>) ...<br />

It's funny how certain knowledge, when first learned, seems a distraction; but in hindsight, you realize some of your better shots were due to following some of these rules, despite not (consciously) knowing they even existed. This knowledge slowly changes your perception, and with a bit of practice, better shots start to come more naturally.<br />
<br />
LEADING LINES ... the first two pics here are (I think) good examples of such. Which is to say, if there are lines in your frame, try to line them up so they aim toward a point of interest (so they add, rather than detract, from your composition). Neither of these was planned (posed), I simply looked and saw that my friends just happened to be standing in position with leading lines ...<br />
<br />
I took three shots of this first pic, moving my position for each, and the third (pictured) was the one I was most pleased with. By moving to the right and squatting down, I was able to "point" the leading lines right at Vicki's waist (and also keep them close enough to the lower/horizontal 1/3 line to be considered a well balanced picture - at least in my amateur opinion). <br />
<br />

Talk about Leading Lines ... the railings and the shadows of the railings all lead you right to what I'm looking at (and the sky is at the top 1/3 horizon line). Maybe not the most compelling pictures to everyone, but I like them :)<br />

REFLECTIONS ... are one of my top favorite topics for photography! I was instantly drawn to how this little guy's eye was perfectly reflected. Which brings to mind another handy tip ... if your subject has an eye - then, no matter what else, make sure the eye is in focus! A blurry eye gives the sense that the whole picture is out of focus. A sharp eye leaves a viewer feeling satisfied that anything out of focus, was intentional (it also adds a sense of depth).<br />

<br />
It's a beautiful preserve, owned and managed by the National Audobon Society, who first started sending seasonal wardens there in 1912 to help protect plume birds, then hunted enmass (almost to extinction) solely for their feathers. It offers a raised boardwalk that meanders 2.25 miles through Pinelands, Freshwater Marshes, Prairies, and Harwood Hammocks, as well as the largest remaining virgin Cypress Strand in the Country. It's also unique in that these terrains all border in a relatively small area (the parks entire land-holding is 11,000 acres).<br />
<br />
The morning started off cold, windy and rainy (monocromatic) but the Sun finally made it out about halfway through our trip, which brought some much welcome warmth and color ...<br />

</tbody></table><div style="text-align: left;">Silly name, fun game. Played in teams of two (or just singles). Each player/team has 4 corn-filled sacks (thus the name), thrown one at a time at the board across from you, in turns. You get 1 pt for each bag you land on the board, 3 pts if you get it in the hole ... knock a bag off - even if it's yours, and it's no longer a point. Likewise, matched moves cancel eachother out (if you and your opponent each get a bag on the board, the two cancel each other out). First team/player to 21 wins.</div>Christine Stonebridgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03938782755889692219noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4292660524534036609.post-37452452227049635702011-02-01T23:42:00.000-05:002011-02-01T23:42:07.606-05:00Hands At Work, The Stone MasonMy brother at work :) He continually tells me that he's "not photo material" (as I stalk him around our yard, lol), but I think when he sees this, he might just see what I see.<br />
<br />
It's a wonderful experience to watch him work. He carefully sorts through the piles of stone until he finds a suitable piece, breaks them deliberately when needed and, once it all comes together, you simply can't image it having been layed-out any different way. Each piece flows into the next. Symmetry.<br />

Stone Masonry is a form of artistry, certainly among the oldest. It brings to mind the word "craftsman" which, sadly, is not as prevalent as it was in the generations before us. Stonework holds a special intrique for me; having originally come from New England, where fabulous granite buildings and age-old rock walls outlining ancient property boundaries still stand proudly amongst the new concrete, metal and glass structures. I look at those beautiful creations and can't help but wonder about the men that crafted them; that spent a lifetime practicing and honing their art. And then, I look at my brother working ... and I smile with pride.<br />

I must say, I'm a bit surprised at the versatility of it. I'd also say, though I'm no expert on equipment, VR (Vibration Reduction) is a must in any lens I might add to my collection. The pics of the pups yesterday were also taken using this lens, as were the these ...<br />

</tbody></table>Thanks to the Palms and Ferns, there's still something with color to shoot out in our yard. We might not have gotten any snow, but it was a cold winter for us, with many frosts. Lots and lots (LOTS) of pruning to be done (great exercise, anyway). Got a good start on the front yard yesterday afteroon and now it's time to get back out there again ... <br />
<br />
Enjoy your day!<br />
